AN ACT

RELATING TO LAW ENFORCEMENT; REQUIRING CERTAIN DOCUMENT VERIFICATION AND REPORTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new section of Chapter 29, Article 1 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF STATE DRIVER'S LICENSE--PROCEDURES.--

A. When a person is stopped for an alleged violation of the Motor Vehicle Code and the person presents a peace officer with a driver's license issued by the United States department of state, the peace officer shall immediately verify, through appropriate channels, the validity of the license.

B. Within five calendar days of the stop, the peace officer shall forward a copy of all documents, including a vehicle accident report, citation issued or other reports, to the foreign missions office of the bureau of diplomatic security of the United States department of state.
