AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO FUND LEGAL ADVOCATES TO ADDRESS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROTECTIVE ORDERS AND ENSURE CROSS-JURISDICTIONAL ENFORCEMENT OF THOSE ORDERS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to address domestic abuse protection orders for women, children and families and to work to provide comity and cross-jurisdictional enforcement of those domestic abuse protection orders. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
