SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 148 appropriates $100.0 from the general fund to the Department of Health (DOH) for the purpose of developing a farm workers outreach resource center to provide referral, education and counseling services.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY02 shall revert to the general fund.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

DOH's Border Health Office has already begun implementation of a farm worker injury and acute pesticide illness surveillance project as the initial steps in the planning of prevention programs for these conditions.
