SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



House Bill 344 amends the Liquor Control Act to provide for imposition of higher fines and/or community service for violations related to the sale or service of alcoholic beverages to minors. The bill provides criminal courts the ability to impose additional penalties and jail time not to exceed one year.



Significant Issues



Additional penalties allowing criminal courts to impose jail time and higher fines for the sale or service of alcoholic beverages to minors may be a powerful deterrent allowing for the reduction of this violation.



This bill should improve traffic safety by attempting to reduce the sale or service of alcoholic beverages to underage drivers.



PERFORMANCE IMPLICATIONS



This bill could improve agency measures to reduce sales and service of alcoholic beverages to minors.
