SUMMARY

Synopsis of HAFC Amendment

The House Appropriations and Finance Committee amendment to House Bill 532 adds two definitions to the bill. "Election campaign purposes" means relating in any way to a campaign in an election conducted by a federal, state or local government. "Governmental purposes" means noncommercial purposes relating in any way to the structure, operation or decision-making of a federal, state or local government.

Synopsis of Original Bill

House Bill 532 amends the Election Code in order to update language that is consistent with today's technology found in election systems. In addition, the bill amends language regarding the certification of voters to be pursuant to the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. HB532 increases the fine from ten dollars ($10.00) to one hundred dollars ($100.00) for each line of unlawfully used voter information. Finally, the bill provides that the Automated Voter Records System Advisory Committee shall meet no fewer than one meeting per year.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill does not contain an appropriation or any significant fiscal implications.
