Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 780 appropriates $100.0 to SDE to fund an intensive, eighteen-month art education program, focusing on at-risk youth between the ages of thirteen and twenty-five years old.
Significant Issues
This program would provide data and research focused upon statewide arts education and the important part the arts play in reaching at-risk youth.
According to SDE, research indicates that students who study the arts in schools and in after-school programs are more motivated and engaged in learning, have a better understanding of different kinds of learning, understand symbolic communication and find more avenues for building competence.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 780 appropriates $100.0 from the general fund and recurring.
