SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 793 appropriates $60.0 from the general fund to the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs for the purpose of establishing an Eastern Navajo Agency Uranium Office as an affiliate of the Office of Navajo Uranium Workers of the Navajo Nation.
Significant Issues
The bill stipulates that the office will provide information and community education about the federal Radiation Exposure Compensation Act to former Navajo uranium workers and their families in the eastern Navajo agency. Also, the office is to assist the individuals and their families receive benefits available from the Uranium Miners Compensation Fund.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $60.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
