SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

HJR 4 proposes to amend Article 12 of the Constitution to replace the current State Board of Education with an all elected fifteen member commission responsible for nominating candidates to the Governor for appointment as Secretary of Education

Significant Issues

The voters of New Mexico will be asked to decide whether they approve of the State Board of Education as it currently operates or if they believe they will have more accountability by having the Governor appoint the Secretary of Education.
