SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 26 appropriates $244.0 from the general fund to the Board of Regents of the University of New Mexico (UNM) for the purpose of funding accessibility services to UNM students who are disabled and to full comply with the mandates of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Significant Issues

The UNM Board of Regents ranked this project very high on their listing of special funding requests submitted to the 2001 regular session. This request was also submitted to the Commission on Higher Education (CHE) and is included on the CHE general fund appropriation matrix.

The CHE recommends funding this program at $150.0.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $244.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY02 shall revert to the general fund.
