Synopsis of Bill



Senate Bill 293 proposes to add a new section to the Election Code that requires ballots not to provide the option to vote a straight party ticket with one mark or selection. In addition, the bill amends statute to not allow lever-type voting machines to permit straight party votes. Finally, the bill strikes the provisions of Section 1-12-53 NMSA 1978 that allow for straight party ticket voting for emergency paper ballots in general elections.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



The bill contains no appropriation or significant fiscal issues.
