SB 394 repeals the Apple Commission Act and transfers assets and obligations to the New Mexico Department of Agriculture.



Significant Issues

The Department of Agriculture is currently promoting New Mexico apples. The assets of the New Mexico Apple Commission would increase this promotion.

According to the Department of Agriculture, apple promotion will increase by 25%.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



The Department of Agriculture assumes all the obligations of the New Mexico Apple Commission. It is unknown if outstanding debts or legal liabilities exist.







ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS



According to the Department of Agriculture, NMDA staff have been working on apple promotions. Existing staff will continue work to promote, sell, and market New Mexico apples. The $22,000 available will be spent directly on promotion of apples.
