SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 416 appropriates $90.0 from the general fund to the Office of Indian Affairs for fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to continue public education and outreach to individuals and families who may be victims of radiation exposure from uranium mining.

Significant Issues

The bill states that the appropriation will aid these individuals in receiving federal benefits available from the Uranium Miners' Compensation Fund. The bill contains an emergency clause.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $90.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund to be expended in fiscal years 2001 and 2002. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
