SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 533 requests that provisions be added to the education technology equipment act that will require stringent analysis from local school boards in the lease-purchase of education technology equipment.

Significant Issues

According to SDE, leasing computer equipment can be a viable alternative to purchasing computer equipment if leasing proves to be cost effective. Comprehensive cost/benefit analysis is needed when determining if leasing is a suitable option for a school district.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Senate Bill 533 contains no appropriation.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

Passage of the bill would not have administrative impact to SDE.
