SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Joint Memorial 35 resolves to create a statewide advisory committee to evaluate the current trauma system and identify financial and health professional needs facing New Mexico health care facilities, and to make recommendations for improving the system.
Significant Issues
The advisory committee would include representatives from the Department of Health, the Human Services Department, the New Mexico Health Policy Commission, the Insurance Division of the Public Regulations Commission, and the statewide Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee. The committee is directed to:
· Identify the number of physicians currently available and the number needed to fully staff an adequate trauma system.
· Determine the feasibility of expanding Medicaid eligibility to all trauma patients who have no other source of payment for services rendered.
· Make recommendations regarding the financial requirement of practicing trauma medicine, and providing adequate trauma staff.
· Recommend how to maintain an adequate statewide trauma system to assure that more New Mexicans get the services they need.
Copies of this memorial would be delivered to the Department of Health, the Human Services Division, the New Mexico Health Policy Commission, the Insurance Division of the Public Regulation Commission, and the Statewide Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee.
