Synopsis of Bill



Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 35 proposes to amend the Constitution of New Mexico by deleting the reference to the carrying of concealed weapons.



Significant Issues



SJR 35 proposes to amend Article 2, Section 6 to read:



"No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes. The carrying of concealed weapons shall be permitted or regulated as provided by law. No municipality or county jail shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to bear arms."



The amendment proposed by the resolution shall be submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at the next general election or at any special election prior to that date.
