SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



Senate Memorial 28 request the President of the United States to appoint Sharon E. Clahchischilliage as the Assistant Secretary of the Interior for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.



Significant Issues



The memorial states that the entire New Mexico delegation supports the recommendation of Senator Pete Domenici that Ms. Clahchischilliage receive such an appointment. In addition, the memorial explains that she was tribal affairs officer for the Children, Youth and Families Department and coordinated tribal-state relation between twenty-two New Mexico pueblos and Indian nations, the governor and the cabinet secretaries. Also, she served as a lieutenant in the United States Commissioned Corps, providing mental health and health care services to the Indian people of New Mexico. The memorial expresses that her experience, education and training have qualified her to represent New Mexico with honor and distinction.



A copy of the memorial is to be forwarded to the New Mexico congressional delegation, the Governor of New Mexico, and to the President of the United States.
