A JOINT MEMORIAL

EXPRESSING THE CONTINUED SUPPORT BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE AWARDS PROGRAM IN NEW MEXICO AND URGING ALL FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND NATIVE AMERICAN GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES IN NEW MEXICO, AS WELL AS NEW MEXICO BUSINESS AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS, TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM OF PUBLIC SERVICE RECOGNITION.



WHEREAS, the distinguished public service awards program has honored more than three hundred New Mexicans for their contributions to public service in New Mexico during thirty-one consecutive years of awards recognition; and

WHEREAS, the program has recently been formalized as a nonprofit corporation in New Mexico, with an archive established at the university of New Mexico school of public administration; and

WHEREAS, in the current year, the program began granting scholarships for graduate education in the area of public service in New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, another group of distinguished New Mexicans will be recognized for their contributions to public service in New Mexico at an annual dinner in Albuquerque on May 18, 2001;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislature express its continued support of the distinguished public service awards program in New Mexico and urge all federal, state, local and Native American governmental entities in New Mexico, as well as New Mexico business and civic organizations, to support the program of public service recognition; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the distinguished public service awards program in New Mexico.
