A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE SECRETARY OF TAXATION AND REVENUE TO WORK WITH STATE AND LOCAL SENIOR CITIZENS' AGENCIES TO ESTABLISH A PILOT PROJECT TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF PROVIDING DRIVER'S LICENSE RENEWAL SERVICES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS AT SENIOR CENTERS.



WHEREAS, many motor vehicle offices, particularly in the Albuquerque area, are very crowded with long lines and long waiting periods at most times of day; and

WHEREAS, senior citizens would find it convenient to be able to renew their driver's licenses at a neighborhood senior center; and

WHEREAS, allowing senior citizens to renew their driver's licenses at senior centers would relieve some of the workload at motor vehicle offices; and

WHEREAS, the secretary of taxation and revenue, with assistance from the state agency on aging and the city of Albuquerque's department of senior affairs or other agencies serving senior citizens, could determine some conveniently located senior centers, particularly in the Albuquerque area, to establish a pilot project to explore the feasibility of allowing senior citizens to renew their driver's licenses at certain senior centers;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the secretary of taxation and revenue, together with the state agency on aging and the city of Albuquerque department of senior affairs or other local agencies serving senior citizens, be requested to conduct a pilot project to determine the feasibility of allowing senior citizens to renew their driver's licenses at certain senior centers, particularly in the Albuquerque area; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of taxation and revenue, the director of the state agency on aging and the director of the city of Albuquerque's department of senior affairs.
