A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT TO SUPPORT THE AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL SPORTS EDUCATIONAL FEDERATION AND THE AMATEUR ATHLETIC WORLD HALL OF FAME MUSEUM.



WHEREAS, the amateur international sports educational federation and the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum are constituted to enhance the future of young people through sports and career educational programs; and

WHEREAS, the federation and the hall of fame museum will establish the world's second-largest amateur sports event next to the Olympics by establishing an annual world sports event in a different country each year; and

WHEREAS, the federation and the hall of fame museum will generate significant economic development for New Mexico by holding the first event here and locating their headquarters operations and the hall of fame museum in New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, the amateur international sports educational federation and the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum endeavor to promote self-discipline, self-confidence, honor and integrity and foster more positive lifestyles; and

WHEREAS, Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chavez has said that sports programs are extremely important in developing essential values integral to achieving success and has commended the federation and the hall of fame museum organizations for their efforts; and

WHEREAS, former congressman and secretary of energy Bill Richardson has said that encouraging and promoting sports activities, educational programs and attractive goals to strive for with international recognition are key elements to a tremendous positive lifestyle;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the economic development department be requested to support the amateur international sports educational federation and the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum in their efforts to promote self-discipline, self-confidence, honor and integrity and foster more positive lifestyles; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of economic development and to the amateur international sports educational federation and the amateur athletic world hall of fame museum.
