AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC DEFENDER DEPARTMENT FOR ADDITIONAL FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES IN THE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD JUDICIAL DISTRICTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--

A. The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the public defender department for expenditure in fiscal year 2003 for the following purposes:

(1) two hundred sixty-two thousand five hundred dollars ($262,500) to provide salaries, benefits and office space for three attorneys, one special agent and one secretary to support the caseload in the first judicial district court;

(2) three hundred nineteen thousand five hundred dollars ($319,500) to provide salaries, benefits and office space for four attorneys, one special agent and one secretary to support the caseload in the second judicial district court;

(3) one hundred ninety-three thousand four hundred dollars ($193,400) to provide salaries, benefits and office space for two attorneys, one special agent and one legal liaison to support the caseload in the Bernalillo county metropolitan court; and

(4) two hundred sixty-eight thousand dollars ($268,000) to provide salaries, benefits and office space for three attorneys, one special agent and one secretary to support the caseload in the third judicial district court.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.
