     Synopsis of Bill

 

House Joint Memorial 10 requests the Commission on Higher Education (CHE), in collaboration with the State Department of Education (SDE), study the feasibility of instituting a minor in the teaching of reading as a requirement for granting teacher certification in elementary education.

 

     Significant Issues

 

House Joint Memorial 10 recognizes the importance of having well-trained teachers of reading in the classroom and reflects the thinking that elementary teachers should receive more training than is currently provided and\or required.

 

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

 

HJM 10 has no fiscal impact.
