SUMMARY

 

Senate Bill 159 appropriates $90.0 from the general fund to the Local Government Division of the Department of Finance and Administration for the purpose of matching federal funds to provide for public transportation in Grant, Luna and Hidalgo counties.

 

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

 

The appropriation of $90.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Senate Bill 159 relates to House Bill 83.

 

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

 

Grant County has an existing Memorandum of Agreement with New Mexico Highway and Transportation Department, Public Transportation Programs Bureau for Federal funds under a §5311 grant for public rural transportation.  This $90,000 is to be the local match for Federal Transit Administration funds for fiscal year 01/02.  The transit service began with fiscal year 00/01, has continued funding for 01/02 and has been approved for Federal funds in fiscal year 02/03 in the amount of $186,740.
