SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 254 appropriates $40.0 from the general fund to the Third Judicial District Attorney for the purpose of providing a trunk phone line.

     Significant Issues

Neither the LFC nor the executive FY03 budget recommendation for the Third Judicial District Attorney includes funding for a trunk phone line.  AODA indicates that the Third Judicial District Attorney did not request funding for a trunk phone line as part of its initial FY03 budget request because the agency had not anticipated the expansion of their office space and other telecommunication needs.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $40.0 contained in SB 254 is a non-recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY03 shall revert to the general fund.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

In addressing SB 254, AODA indicates that the agency’s inability to install an effective and efficient telephone system could affect the daily operations and automation of the office.
