SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

Senate Memorial 17 requests the Senate to thank and congratulate Telefutura Forty Eight for its service to the citizens of New Mexico.

     Significant Issues

Univision Communications, Inc. launched its new Spanish-language network, Telefutura, in more than 15 markets throughout the nation at the beginning of 2002, with New Mexico being one of those markets.  Upon its launch, Telefutura expected to reach 80% of all U.S. Hispanic homes through its station group and affiliates, which will broadcast 24 hours per day, and will include news, novelas, talk shows, variety shows, movies and sports programming.  U.S. Spanish-language media company Entravision Communications Corp. will air the signal of Telefutura in these markets.
