A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THAT THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION DESIGNATE UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 666 AS "NAVAJO CODE TALKERS' HIGHWAY".



WHEREAS, approximately four hundred Navajo men served as code talkers during World War II; and

WHEREAS, the code talkers served with all branches of the armed services of the United States to protect our country, our freedom of religion and our liberty; and

WHEREAS, the code talkers used the Navajo language to establish an impenetrable communications code during World War II; and

WHEREAS, the United States congress has recognized the code talkers for the sacrifices they made for our country;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway commission be requested to designate United States highway 666 as "Navajo Code Talkers' Highway"; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the chairman of the state highway commission.
