AN ACT

RELATING TO COUNTY SHERIFFS; PROVIDING THAT SHERIFFS RECEIVE ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION FOR ADVANCED LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. SHERIFFS--ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING.--In addition to the salaries provided for sheriffs in Sections 4-44-4 through 4-44-8 NMSA 1978, a sheriff shall receive a one thousand five hundred dollar ($1,500) training increment annually for each level of advanced law enforcement certification for which the sheriff has qualified as established by the New Mexico law enforcement academy.

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2003.
