AN ACT

RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; REQUIRING A SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CALCULATE AND TRANSFER THE PROGRAM COST OF THE STUDENT WHEN A STUDENT TRANSFERS TO ANOTHER SCHOOL DISTRICT.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. A new section of the Public School Finance Act is enacted to read:

"[NEW MATERIAL] TRANSFER TO NEW SCHOOL DISTRICT--PROGRAM FUNDING FOR STUDENT TRANSFERRED.--When a student transfers from one school district to another, the school district that received the current-year distribution for the student shall transfer to the receiving school district the amount calculated for the student's grade placement, bilingual multicultural education placement and special education placement."

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2003.
