AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO SUPPORT EMPLOYED INDIGENT EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHERS WHO ARE OBTAINING HIGHER EDUCATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the temporary assistance for needy families block grant to the children, youth and families department for expenditure in fiscal year 2004 by the office of child development for the purpose of contracting with persons employed as early childhood teachers who are enrolled in the state's temporary assistance for needy families program and enrolled in a degree course at a post-secondary educational institution to improve their employment skills. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the temporary assistance for needy families block grant.
