AN ACT

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES; CREATING THE SPECIAL COMMEMORATIVE ROUTE 66 REGISTRATION PLATE; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. SPECIAL ROUTE 66 COMMEMORATIVE REGISTRATION PLATE.--

A. The motor vehicle division of the taxation and revenue department shall establish and issue a special route 66 commemorative registration plate.

B. For a fee of thirty-five dollars ($35.00), the owner of a vehicle may apply for issuance of a special route 66 commemorative registration plate. The owner shall apply and pay the fee each year to retain and renew the special route 66 commemorative registration plate.

C. Revenue from the special route 66 commemorative registration plate is appropriated to the state highway and transportation department for the purpose of funding the revitalization and preservation of historic route 66 in New Mexico.

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2003.
