AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A COURT FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT STUDY; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million five hundred thousand dollars ($1,500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the administrative office of the courts for expenditure in fiscal years 2003 and 2004 to contract for an inventory, study and statewide database of district court facilities, including compliance with building and life-safety codes, structural adequacy, security for facility users and current and future space needs. The study shall include the estimated cost of repairing and renovating each court facility studied. The administrative office of the courts may let one or more contracts for the inventory and study. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2004 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
