SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 251 creates
the Waste Management Education and Research Consortium (WERC), stipulates it
shall be a division of New Mexico State University (NMSU) and names the participating
institutions that shall comprise the membership.
Significant Issues
HB 251stipulates that
participating institutions in the consortium shall be NMSU, the University of
New Mexico, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, Dine College, Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National
Laboratory.
The purposes of the
consortium are to engage in theoretical and practical education of research and
environmental issues, disseminate knowledge acquired through educational
programs and assist in efforts to address environmental and natural resource
problems.
