SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 409 amends Section 1-6-14 NMSA 1978 to permit the absent voter precinct board to open the outer (official mailing envelopes) envelopes of absentee ballots three days prior to the election.

     Significant Issues

According to the Secretary of State, this proposal may substantially reduce the reporting time for absentee ballots in larger jurisdictions.
