SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 806 reduces the size of the Legislative Finance Committee from sixteen to fifteen total members.  Eight members shall be from the House of Representatives and seven members from the Senate.

HB 806 adds the chairs of the House Education Committee and the Senate Education Committee, or their representatives, as nonvoting advisory members of the Legislative Finance Committee.

This bill also specifies the procedure for selecting designees when regular members of the Legislative Finance Committee and the Legislative Education Study Committee do not attend such meetings.  The regular members shall select their designees from a list of potential designees appointed by the appointing authority for each house. The lists shall be maintained in the offices of the Legislative Finance Committee and the Legislative Education Study Committee.

HB 806 also clarifies that without prior approval of the New Mexico Legislative Council, the Legislative Finance Committee and the Legislative Education Study Committee shall not meet outside of the state capitol after August 31 of each year.
