SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

House Joint Memorial 68 requests the New Mexico Legislative Council Service create an interim youth council consisting of young people and Legislators to study the problems facing young people and recommending potential solutions to the forty-sixth Legislature.

     Significant Issues

Three bills have been introduced for youth councils to assist the Governor in developing solutions to problems facing today’s young people.  This memorial would establish a council to assist the Legislature.  This memorial is an important step in having those most affected by problems facing them be involved in finding solutions to those problems.

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

  1. With the interest in youth councils by  both the Executive and Legislature, would it be appropriate to have a combined council during the interim?
