SUMMARY

     Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 720 proposes to declare the square dance as the office state dance by adding a new section to the State seal, song and symbols statutes.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

The Secretary of State’s office would have to update the New Mexico Blue Book with this new official state symbol category.  Other informational and promotional publications would have to be updated as appropriate.

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS

Is the square dance appropriate to represent New Mexico’s numerous ethnic groups, cultures and artistic disciplines?
