FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO EXPAND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE TEACHERS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thirty thousand dollars ($230,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to provide matching funds to expand professional development for mathematics and science teachers. The department shall develop rules to choose school districts and to provide for fund distribution. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
