FOR THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE

 

AN ACT

RELATING TO EDUCATION; ALLOWING CERTAIN GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATES TO COUNT FOR ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Assessment and Accountability Act is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATES TO COUNT IN GRADUATION RATES FOR ADEQUATE YEARLY PROGRESS.--A person who earns a general educational development certificate within one year of leaving public school without graduating shall be reported in the graduation rate of the last public high school attended by the person. The department shall provide for the notification of the high school and school district."
