AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR REMOVAL OF DEAD TREES THAT POSE A FOREST FIRE HAZARD IN LOS ALAMOS, MORA, SAN MIGUEL AND SANTA FE COUNTIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the energy, minerals and natural resources department for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to conduct a pilot program with New Mexico highlands university of removing dead trees that pose a forest fire hazard in Los Alamos, Mora, San Miguel and Santa Fe counties. The wood material to be removed shall be from areas where a forest fire would pose a direct threat to cities, state recreation areas, campgrounds and highways. All wood material shall be made available to area residents for heating purposes. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
