A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO COOPERATE WITH TORRANCE COUNTY, THE CITY OF MORIARTY AND THE COMMUNITY IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DWI MEMORIAL OF PERPETUAL TEARS.

 

     WHEREAS, a DWI memorial of perpetual tears will create an awareness among the public of the continuing devastation caused by drinking and driving; and

     WHEREAS, a memorial will offer comfort to victims' families, educate those who are unaware of the immensity of the problem and remove the obstacle of denial by honoring victims; and

     WHEREAS, a memorial will be a field of markers representing the death of each DWI victim;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of transportation be requested to cooperate with Torrance county, the city of Moriarty and the community to create a DWI memorial of perpetual tears; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the department of transportation, the mayor of Moriarty and the Torrance county commission.
