A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING CONGRESS TO RELINQUISH TITLE TO FORT SUMNER DIVERSION DAM TO THE FORT SUMNER IRRIGATION DISTRICT IMMEDIATELY UPON RETIREMENT OF THE DEBT TO THE BUREAU OF RECLAMATION.

 

     WHEREAS, Fort Sumner irrigation district is in the process of retiring its debt to the federal bureau of reclamation for the Fort Sumner diversion dam; and

     WHEREAS, terms of bureau of reclamation contracts with irrigation and conservancy districts call for congressional action to return title held on district property upon retirement of outstanding debt; and

     WHEREAS, titles have been returned by congress on irrigation or conservancy district property, and it is important to the state's economy for the Fort Sumner irrigation district to receive title pursuant to contracts with the bureau of reclamation;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that congress be requested to return title of its diversion dam to the Fort Sumner irrigation district upon retirement of the debt to the bureau of reclamation by the district; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico congressional delegation.
