A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THAT SEPTEMBER 2004 BE DESIGNATED AS "GYNECOLOGIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH" IN NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, gynecologic cancer ranks fourth among cancers that kill women in the United States, and over eighty thousand women were diagnosed with gynecologic cancer in 2003; and

     WHEREAS, the good health and well-being of the women of New Mexico are enhanced as a direct result of efforts to spread awareness about gynecologic cancer; and

     WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the citizens of New Mexico to work together as people and as a state to increase research into understanding the causes of gynecologic cancer, finding effective screening and prevention strategies for gynecologic cancer and developing improved therapies for gynecologic cancer; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico is pleased to recognize and applaud the valuable role that families and advocates of gynecologic cancer victims play in helping the medical community to advance the fight against this disease;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that September 2004 be designated as "Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month"; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the governor.
