AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT TO MATCH FEDERAL FUNDS FOR A WATER RECLAMATION STUDY IN GALLUP.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of environment for expenditure in fiscal year 2006 to match federal funds for a water reclamation study in Gallup, which, if successful, will result in the first project in the nation to reclaim up to ninety percent of municipal water for direct reuse and which will move toward a sustainable water supply and provide a model to implement in municipalities statewide. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.
