AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE VETERANS' SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOR NAVAJO VETERANS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

          A. One million nine hundred thirty-seven thousand seven hundred fourteen dollars ($1,937,714) is appropriated from the general fund to the veterans' services department for expenditure in fiscal year 2006 in the following amounts and for the following purposes that serve Navajo veterans:                     (1) eighty-six thousand five hundred dollars ($86,500) to perform approximately one hundred twenty-five land surveys and to gain approximately one hundred seventy-one archaeological clearances for one-acre lots available for new home construction and rehabilitation projects on Navajo Nation chapter lands;

                (2) one million seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($1,750,000) for fifty housing units for Navajo veterans otherwise unable to finance a home at each of the fifty Navajo Nation chapters in New Mexico; and

                (3) one hundred one thousand two hundred fourteen dollars ($101,214) to establish a position for a statistician and demographer to develop a Navajo veterans database project documenting every Navajo veteran in New Mexico.

          B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.
