AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ASSIST THE CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE IN SUPPORTING AN EFFORT TO BRING INTERNATIONAL THEATRICAL COMPANIES TO PERFORM AS WELL AS CONDUCT EDUCATIONAL AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE OUTREACH ACTIVITIES AT THE CITY'S TRICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred thousand dollars ($400,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the cultural affairs department for expenditure in fiscal years 2005 and 2006 to assist the city of Albuquerque in supporting the efforts of a local theatrical company to bring international theatrical companies to perform as well as conduct educational and cultural exchange outreach activities at the city's tricentennial celebration. Activities will focus on the celebration of cultures that have contributed to the continuing evolution of the state for over three hundred years, the city of Albuquerque and New Mexico as centers of international exchange for the world, the mutual understanding of cultures and the promotion of tourism and economic development of the city and state through education and the performing arts. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.

     Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
