AN ACT

RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; PLACING A MORATORIUM ON THE PURCHASE OF VOTING SYSTEMS; REQUIRING A REPORT ON VOTING SYSTEMS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. TEMPORARY PROVISION--VOTING SYSTEM PURCHASES--REPORT--MORATORIUM.--Until March 1, 2006, neither the state nor its political subdivisions shall acquire for use in elections governed by the Election Code voting systems that do not provide a voter verifiable and auditable paper trail. The New Mexico legislative council shall request the appropriate legislative interim committee or task force to report to the legislature on voting system issues, including voting system security, cost, reliability, ease of use and accuracy, by December 15, 2005 and to make recommendations to the second session of the forty-seventh legislature.
