AN ACT

RELATING TO STATE POLICE; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR STATE POLICE SALARIES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. STATE POLICE SALARIES--LEGISLATIVE FINANCE COMMITTEE REVIEW.--The legislative finance committee shall annually review state police salaries relative to other law enforcement agencies in the state and shall recommend to the legislature salary increases sufficient to maintain the state police salary ranking within the three highest salary ranges of law enforcement salaries in the state.

     Section 2. APPROPRIATION.--Six million seven hundred thousand ($6,700,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2006 for state police salary increases. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2006 shall revert to the general fund.
