A MEMORIAL

PROMOTING THE TRUST INDUSTRY IN NEW MEXICO IN SUPPORT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

     WHEREAS, the Honorable Bill Richardson, governor of New Mexico, has listed economic growth as one of his policy priorities; and

     WHEREAS, the trust industry in New Mexico encompasses investment management companies, estate planning attorneys and trust administration companies; and

     WHEREAS, the trust industry in New Mexico includes small local companies as well as large nationally chartered financial institutions; and

     WHEREAS, the trust industry in New Mexico is comprised of investment management companies, estate planning attorneys and trust administration companies located in all areas of the state; and

     WHEREAS, the trust industry is a clean industry that does not cause pollution nor is it dependent on water; and

     WHEREAS, the trust industry is not reliant upon the health of the New Mexico economy for stability; and

     WHEREAS, the trust industry allows New Mexico students to stay in New Mexico after graduation by offering well-paying, challenging jobs;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it support the promotion of the trust industry in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the economic development department and to the economic development commission.
