SUMMARY
Synopsis of HBIC Amendment
The House Business and Industry Committee amendment places a limit on a winegrower’s intra-
state shipments of wine at 200 cases per calendar year.
Synopsis of Original Bill
House Bill 425 removes winegrowers’ limitations on intrastate shipments of wine and allows
winegrowers to sell wine by the glass at off-premise locations.
Significant Issues
Current law limits intrastate shipment by winegrowers to not more than 100 cases per calendar
year. House Bill 425 would remove that limitation. Current law allows winegrowers, at no more
than three off-premises locations, to conduct wine tastings and sell wine in unbroken packages.
House Bill 425 would also allow the winegrower to sell wine by the glass at such locations.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
DPS notes a possible increase in law enforcement costs.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
The Department of Agriculture writes that this bill could benefit the 22 wineries in New Mexico
by making it more feasible to conduct business and by boosting sales.
