Synopsis of HEC Amendment
House Education Committee amended House Bill 856 as follows:
The amendment inserts new language to modify the subject of the bill, lines 12 and 13.
Lines 19 and 20 are changed to match the amended title of the bill.
The amendment clarifies the intent of the bill to fund the Jemez Valley school district to
develop and implement multicultural literacy strategies.
Synopsis of Original Bill
House Bill 856 appropriates $75.0 to PED to improve student achievement by providing profes-
sional development in literacy strategies for the teachers in the Jemez Valley School district.
Significant Issues
The bill would support the PED in developing quality teacher programs in school districts.

House Bill 856 appropriates $75.0 from the general fund and is recurring. Any unexpended or
unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY06 shall revert to the general fund.
