SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 961 appropriates $100 thousand dollars from the general fund to the Interstate Stream
Commission for the purpose of conducting a study of the salt basin water resource to determine
how best to retain the water in New Mexico for use by New Mexico communities.
Significant Issues
The Salt Basin contains a substantial amount of ground water, and contains some perennial sur-
face water flows. Ground water is currently used for irrigation in this area.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $100 thousand dollars contained in this bill is a nonrecurring expense to the
general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year
2006 shall revert to the general fund.
